Samklef: Wizkid and Olamide, Not Davido, Initiated the Afrobeats Movement

Samuel Oguachuba, widely known as Samklef, has expressed his reaction to Davido's recent claims about being one of the pioneers in popularizing the Afrobeats genre in Nigeria.

In a viral interview video, Davido asserted that he played a significant role in "blowing up" Afrobeats alongside Wizkid. He also referred to emerging artists like Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, Fireboy DML, Mayorkun, and others as "new cats" who have been making impressive strides in the music industry.

However, Samklef disagreed with Davido's statement and took to Twitter to voice his opinion.

According to Samklef, the real trailblazers who propelled the widespread popularity of Afrobeats were Olamide and Wizkid. He believes that these two street-savvy artists laid the foundation for the genre, with others like Davido joining the movement later on.

Samklef accompanied his tweet with a throwback photo of Olamide and Wizkid, emphasizing their role as the originators of the game.
