Protest Planned by Multiple Groups Against Ararume's Reinstatement as NNPCL Chair on April 22, 2023

A group of more than 25 civil society organizations has opposed a court ruling that reinstated Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as Non-Executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited after his removal by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The coalition called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to release its security report on Ararume during his screening by the National Assembly.

They said the DSS report would provide a clear indication of why Ararume was removed from the board of the NNPCL.

The coalition also hinted at organizing a major protest against the judgment in Abuja next week. The Federal High Court in Abuja had nullified Ararume's sacking by the President and awarded him N5bn in damages.

The President called for calm and stated that due process would take its course.

The CCSGGG commended the President for indicating that the Federal Government was appealing the judgment. Ararume's replacement had sparked a lengthy legal battle that culminated in his favor on Tuesday.
