National Stadium Lagos ordered closed by Sports Minister

The Minister of Youths and Sport Development, Sunday Dare, has announced that the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, will be temporarily closed due to the collapse of a floodlight mast.

The minister had inspected the damaged floodlight mast and also examined the three other light masts, which showed visible signs of aging and damage caused by weather elements.

In the interest of public safety, the minister ordered the closure of the stadium and its surrounding facilities until a comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrade of the 51-year-old edifice can be carried out.

The Federal Government, through the ICRC, will expedite the concession process towards fully privatizing the Surulere stadium. The minister requested the cooperation of everyone affected by the decision, emphasizing that extensive restrictions will be imposed around the stadium, and the public's safety is of utmost importance.
