This recognition is a result of Davido's significant contributions to the music industry and his recent electrifying performance at the Toyota Center in Houston, which was completely sold out. Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston, Texas, officially made the proclamation in a statement, stating that July 7, 2023, would be celebrated as Davido Day.
The declaration of Davido Day serves as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate Davido's artistic talent, his role as a cultural ambassador, and the immense joy he has brought to his countless fans worldwide. By establishing 'Davido Day' as an official event on the city's calendar, Houston joins the global community in paying homage to this acclaimed musician, solidifying his status as a true musical icon.
Davido himself shared a copy of the official statement via his Instastory, expressing his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him. It is worth noting that this gesture is not entirely unprecedented, as a few years ago, Wizkid, another prominent African artist, was similarly honored when he became the first African artist to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Former Governor Mark Dayton of Minnesota declared October 6 as Wizkid Day on that occasion.
