Imo State's chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) experienced a significant shakeup as its executives decided to resign from their respective positions.
Collins Opuozor, the PDP publicity secretary, joined other party leaders in disclosing this development during a press briefing in Owerri, the state capital. Vanguard reported on Sunday, June 18, that the executives formally announced their departure from the party.
The decision to resign stemmed from a range of concerns voiced by the disgruntled PDP executives. They alleged that Samuel Anyanwu, the party's candidate for the upcoming November governorship election in Imo State, resorted to violent means and intimidation tactics against them, even going so far as to threaten their personal safety.
The November election in Imo State holds great significance, as it is one of the off-season elections taking place in Nigeria. Alongside Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states are also holding elections during this time. Notably, the ruling party in Kogi is the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the PDP is in power in Bayelsa State. This dynamic grants the PDP an advantage in the forthcoming election, as they hold sway in the southern state of Bayelsa.
