The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating allegations of fraudulent employment practices at the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has taken a decisive step by ordering the apprehension of the main suspect, Haruna Kolo. Kolo, a former desk officer at the FCC, has been accused of orchestrating a scheme involving the illicit sale of job opportunities.
Yusuf Gagdi, the committee's chairman, issued the arrest warrant on Thursday after Kolo chose not to attend the committee's ongoing inquiry. Kolo had previously admitted, during the committee's previous session on Monday, that he had received substantial sums of money from job seekers, offering them positions in exchange. These transactions were allegedly done on behalf of FCC Chairman Muheeba Dankaka.
Kolo's statement revealed that he utilized his personal bank account to gather funds from job applicants, subsequently withdrawing the cash and delivering it to Dankaka. Despite being instructed to appear before the committee again for further questioning, Kolo has failed to honor this request.
Addressing Kolo's failure to make an appearance, the committee's chairman instructed the committee clerk to initiate the process of obtaining an arrest warrant. Following Kolo's continued absence on Thursday, Gagdi, who represents the Pankshin/Panam/Kanke Federal Constituency of Plateau State, urged relevant law enforcement agencies to apprehend Kolo and bring him before the committee on the upcoming Monday.
Gagdi emphasized the committee's stance, stating, "Regarding Haruna Kolo, this committee is resolute that he will forfeit his freedom. We will issue an arrest warrant for Haruna Kolo and compel the security agencies to produce him before this committee whenever he is apprehended." Consequently, the committee adjourned its investigation until Monday.
