A group consisting of Quranic Reciters, memorizers, and learners has expressed strong opposition to the former Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, being appointed as a minister. They have urged the Nigerian Senate and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove El-Rufai's name from the list of 28 nominees submitted for screening and confirmation on Monday, July 31.
During a press conference held in Bauchi on Sunday, July 28, Sheikh Sidi Ali, the director of education for the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation, made an appeal to President Tinubu to reconsider El-Rufai's nomination. The group believes that appointing El-Rufai as a minister goes against principles of natural justice, equity, and good conscience. They firmly believe that his inclusion in the list should be withdrawn in the interest of justice, peace, harmony, and the overall development of the country, as reported by Daily Trust and The Sun.
The group further emphasized their concerns, stating that they have previously pleaded with President Tinubu to be cautious about individuals like El-Rufai, who they feel do not support Quranic learning and memorization. They were surprised to see El-Rufai's name in the ministerial list and called for his replacement with a better-qualified and unbiased Nigerian who would not discriminate against the Almajiri System of education.
