A key figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to gracefully accept defeat in the wake of the Appeal Court's ruling in Abuja. The court has confirmed Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the legitimate winner of the Kano State governorship election held on March 18. Kwankwaso, a former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in the state, cautioned Governor Yusuf against pursuing the case further to the Supreme Court, particularly given his previous setbacks at both the Election Petitions Tribunal and the appellate court levels.
As reported by Leadership, Kwankwaso emphasized that dragging the case to the Supreme Court would be a futile endeavor, given the compelling evidence that worked against Governor Yusuf at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. He suggested that it would be in the governor's best interest to take a break and wait until 2027 before considering any further legal actions.
Responding to the Court of Appeal's decision on the disputed Kano State governorship election, Kwankwaso expressed approval of the victory of the APC's governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna. He regarded this outcome as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law.
