Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Sa'ad Abubakar III, has called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to support the incoming administration and contribute to stabilizing the country.
Speaking at a round-table engagement in Abuja organized by the National Population Commission (NPC) to promote girl-child education for human capital development, the Sultan emphasized the need for unity and assistance to the government beyond prayers.
He highlighted the enduring role of traditional and religious leaders compared to politicians, who have limited terms in office.
The Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, supported the inclusion of religion in census data, stating that it is an essential aspect of Nigerian society.
He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for postponing the census, urging the incoming administration to conduct a credible headcount.
The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, stressed the importance of conducting the census in a conducive climate.
NPC Chairman Nasir Isa-Kwarra highlighted the significance of providing girls with education, which would improve living standards and contribute to societal progress and peace.
