The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), based in Abuja, has adjourned further proceedings on the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the outcome of the presidential election held on February 25.
The adjournment was made to allow for a pre-hearing session on the petition and to address pending applications filed by the respondents.
The respondents in the case are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the adjournment, Justice Haruna Tsammani, leading a five-member panel, stated that on Friday, the court would decide on the number of witnesses allowed for each party, the allocated time for their presentations, and the time allotted for cross-examination.
Justice Tsammani urged the parties involved to collaborate and agree on further procedures to be followed.
Atiku and the PDP jointly filed the petition, requesting the court to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the President-elect by INEC.
They argued that Tinubu's victory in the presidential election was invalid due to non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
Additionally, they claimed that Tinubu's election was invalid due to corrupt practices, asserting that he did not secure the majority of lawful votes cast.
Atiku also sought for the court to declare him as the winner, having received the second-highest number of lawful votes.
