Confirmed by a recent report, Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has taken a new step in his legal battle. Emefiele has submitted a fresh application to halt the federal government's efforts to prosecute him.
This development came to light on Thursday, August 10. According to details from Punch, Emefiele has approached the federal high court in Lagos, where he seeks to prevent the Department of State Security (DSS) from proceeding with his prosecution under the jurisdiction of Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
Emefiele's legal team, led by Joseph Daudu (SAN), has asserted that the actions of the Department of State Security are a clear instance of "brazen disobedience" to court orders. These orders had previously granted Emefiele bail on July 25, 2023. Joseph Daudu is now petitioning the court to issue an order compelling the DSS to adhere to the previous court's ruling, which had granted his client the right to bail.
