Amotekun Confrontation: Three Officers Injured in Gunfight with Herdsmen in Osun State

Three members of the Osun Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, were injured following a confrontation with herdsmen in the state. The clash occurred after farmers in Kajola village, Atakunmosa East local government area, reported the activities of the herders to the Amotekun operatives.

According to a community source, the herders engaged the Amotekun men in a gun battle when they attempted to make arrests, resulting in injuries on both sides. Bashir Adewinbi, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, confirmed that three operatives sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire with the herders.

Adewinbi explained that the Amotekun personnel were dispatched to Kajola village to mediate between the farmers and herders but were met with aggression from the herders, leading to the altercation. He noted that the police were involved in the incident, with one herder initially arrested but later released. The injured operatives are reported to be in stable condition now.

Despite efforts to obtain a statement from the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, there has been no response to calls and text messages at the time of compiling this report.
