Pressure Mounts on President Bola Tinubu to Expedite Release of Bawa

Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to promptly release Abdulrasheed Bawa, who had been suspended from his position as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Sowore took to his official Twitter account on Friday, August 11, to voice his demand, alleging that the current administration is manipulating Bawa's situation for political gain.

Sowore, a figure known for his transition from media entrepreneurship to politics, asserted that the Nigerian authorities have not presented any formal charges against Bawa, suggesting that this circumstance reeks of politically motivated harassment.

He highlighted that the prolonged detention of Bawa by the Directorate of State Services (DSS) without clear legal grounds underscores the notion of political persecution. Sowore firmly urged that President Tinubu and his associates release Bawa without any further delay.
