The National and State House of Assemblies Election Petition Tribunal convened in Kano on Thursday has rendered a verdict that reshapes the outcome of the Federal House of Representatives election held on February 25.
Hafizu Kawu, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has been proclaimed the victor after the tribunal invalidated the triumph of Mukthar Umar Yarima from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). This decisive action was taken due to the revelation of falsified credentials relating to Yarima's primary school certificate.
In a carefully delivered judgment, the three-judge panel of the tribunal unanimously endorsed the assertion that Yarima, the respondent, did not fulfill attendance at Hausawa Primary School as claimed. Scrutinizing both witness testimonies and submitted documents, the tribunal conclusively determined that Yarima had engaged in the fabrication of his primary school certificate. As a direct consequence of this misconduct, Yarima's eligibility to participate in the Tarauni Federal House of Representatives Election came under serious question.
With these findings in mind, the tribunal ruled to disregard the entire tally of votes garnered by the NNPP candidate. Subsequently, they officially declared Hafizu Kawu, the runner-up from the APC, as the rightful winner of the election.
