Delta State is currently experiencing a deadlock in the formation of a new cabinet, as the incumbent governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, clashes with his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and other political leaders, according to reliable sources.
The disagreement arises from Dr. Okowa's insistence on securing a significant portion, specifically forty percent, of the cabinet positions for his political allies. However, this demand has been met with objections from other stakeholders within the party.
An anonymous source familiar with the matter revealed that Dr. Okowa is particularly keen on appointing his political allies to key positions in the Ministries of Finance, Works, and Health. He is rumored to favor a former Accountant General from his local government area to fill the Ministry of Finance post. Governor Oborevwori, on the other hand, is discontented with this situation and may be prepared to confront his predecessor's demands head-on.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that former governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is allegedly working behind the scenes to secure a position for his daughter. She failed to win the Warri North Constituency seat in the State legislature during the last PDP primaries.
A source close to the matter stated, "The delay in announcing the new cabinet is due to the disagreement between Governor Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Okowa. Okowa is determined to have a larger share of cabinet members due to his significant role in ensuring Oborevwori's appointment as governor. However, other PDP leaders are uncomfortable with Okowa's uncompromising stance, considering that the governor had already conceded the position of Secretary to the Government (SSG) to him."
Responding to these speculations, Governor Oborevwori's Chief Press Secretary refuted the claims, dismissing them as mere speculation. The situation remains unresolved as both sides continue to assert their positions, leaving the formation of a new cabinet hanging in the balance.
