Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin has made allegations that the recently unveiled Nigeria Air plane, which arrived in the country last Friday, has returned to Addis Ababa.
According to a report by Naija News, the Nigeria Air plane made its inaugural landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, marking the first appearance of the proposed airline.
The flight originated from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and arrived in Nigeria on May 26, 2023. Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the successful completion of the project, acknowledging the challenges faced along the way.
However, an investigation by Daily Trust revealed that the aircraft actually belongs to Ethiopian Airlines, as the identification code "ET-APL" was visible on the wing, which is used by Ethiopian Airlines' planes.
This revelation sparked outrage among Nigerians online, with many criticizing the government for falsely claiming ownership.
In a Twitter post on Saturday, David Hundeyin accused the federal government of hastily applying a temporary paint job that would later be removed in Addis Ababa. He claimed that the plane was now returning to Ethiopian Airlines' regular service after being used as an expensive prop to entertain Nigerians with press photos.
