In a recent development, the Kaduna State Government has officially declared the Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA) as an unlawful society within the state.
A proscription order has been signed to enforce this decision.
According to a statement released by Muyiwa Adekeye, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Governor, the proscription order was issued due to the Atyap Community Development Association's activities that pose a threat to the peace, harmony, and good governance of Kaduna State.
The association has allegedly engaged in covert acts that endanger the tranquility and coexistence within the region.
The order, known as the Atyap Community Development Association (Proscription) Order, 2023, was signed by the outgoing governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. This action was carried out under the authority granted by Section 60 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law No. 5 of 2017 and Section 5 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The proscription order officially came into effect on the 24th of May, 2023. Adekeye further explained that while the Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, and the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly, the proscription order was deemed necessary for the preservation of public safety, public order, public morality, public health, and the rights and freedoms of all individuals in Kaduna State, as granted by Section 45 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
This decision by the Kaduna State Government marks a significant step in addressing the concerns associated with the Atyap Community Development Association, with the aim of restoring peace and ensuring the overall well-being of the state and its citizens.
