Newly nominated ministers, a total of 28, have initiated their documentation process at the National Assembly in Abuja. This comes as the Senate begins the screening and confirmation process. Alhaji Abdullahi Gumel, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), requested the nominees to visit his office at the National Assembly within the specified dates for the exercise. The screening is set to commence on Monday, July 31.
Gumel stated that the documentation process has begun, and all nominees are expected to complete the necessary requirements before the screening. To facilitate this, his office will be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
One of the nominees, David Umahi from Ebonyi State, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for nominating him as a minister. Umahi, the immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, promised to work diligently to prove himself worthy of the nomination. He emphasized his commitment to supporting the President and ensuring the fulfillment of promises made.
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State also lauded Tinubu for nominating Umahi as a minister, referring to him as "our son and father of Modern Ebonyi State." Nwifuru expressed confidence in Umahi's capabilities and expected fruitful cooperation between the Federal Government and Ebonyi State.
Additionally, the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) welcomed Umahi's nomination, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver.
In another nomination, Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, received well-deserved accolades for being included in the ministerial list. Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State congratulated Wike and praised his commitment to the country's unity and progress.
Other stakeholders and groups, including the Rivers State chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Future Nigeria Movement (FNM), expressed satisfaction with the nominees' caliber, urging them to focus on achieving tangible results for the benefit of the nation.
Despite the positive reception, some individuals, like rights activist Celestine Akpobari, felt that more new faces should have been nominated to align with the "Renewed Hope" mantra of the government.
Gideon Obhakhan, the Secretary of Public Affairs Directorate of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, praised President Tinubu's choice of nominees and highlighted the positive impact on the upcoming governorship election in Edo Central Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba from Delta State commended the President for creating a diverse and inclusive cabinet that represents the nation's diversity, expressing hope that the nominees would contribute to the country's progress and prosperity.
