President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with two House of Representatives members, Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, at the State House in Abuja. The purpose of the meeting has not been disclosed yet, but it is believed to be related to the significant opposition Abbas and Kalu have encountered in their bids for the speakership and deputy speakership positions in the upcoming 10th House of Representatives.
According to reports from The PUNCH, Abbas and Kalu have received the endorsement of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, respectively.
The 10th National Assembly will be officially inaugurated on June 13, after which a selection process will take place to determine the new Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
This meeting on Thursday follows a previous engagement between President Tinubu, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. Further details regarding the outcome of the meeting with Abbas and Kalu will be revealed in due course.
