The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dismissed social media rumors suggesting that they will initiate protests on Friday, June 2, against the recent hike in petrol prices.
In a statement by the NLC's Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, it was clarified that while the labor union is deeply concerned about the price increase and its detrimental impact on ordinary Nigerians, no protest action is scheduled for tomorrow.
The statement emphasized that the NLC will convene a meeting to discuss the issue and determine the appropriate course of action.
They assured the public that updates regarding the outcome of the meeting will be provided.
The recent approval of the new petrol pump price by the federal government has sparked widespread criticism, with many arguing that it disproportionately burdens the masses.
However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration maintains that the complete removal of petrol subsidy is in the best interest of the nation.
