In an effort to make big fights happen in the boxing world, negotiations are underway for a clash between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez.
Despite some conflicts between representatives, the two sides are already in talks for the potential matchup.
Sampson Lewkowick, Benavidez's promoter, confirmed that he sent an email to Eddy Reynoso, Canelo's trainer and manager, on Monday, May 29 at 4:45 pm. Lewkowick described the email as an offer, which he believes will be one of the most lucrative opportunities in Canelo's career. The Uruguayan promoter expressed his confidence in setting up the fight between Canelo and Benavidez.
Lewkowick also reached out to Reynoso through social media, responding to Reynoso's initial claim of not receiving anything.
He firmly stated that there is indeed a substantial offer for Canelo to face Benavidez, expressing his offense at Reynoso's suggestion that he is merely "fantasizing" about making the fight happen.
These negotiations may involve promoter Eddie Hearn, who has been working with Canelo in recent years. Hearn could play a role in facilitating the potential matchup between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez.
Canelo, who recently defeated John Ryder by unanimous decision, has several other options on his radar. He is considering a rematch against Bivol in September, with Jermall Charlo or David Morrell, the top super middleweight contender in the WBA rankings, also being considered.
While the initiation of negotiations and the offer from Lewkowick is a positive step, it doesn't guarantee that any of these fights will happen immediately. However, it does mark the first step towards potentially making the Canelo-Alvarez vs. David Benavidez bout a reality.
