Aisha Buhari, the wife of the outgoing president, has shared her thoughts on her tenure as the first lady and her husband's performance in office.
In an interview with The Sun, she stated that President Muhammadu Buhari fulfilled half of his campaign promises.
Aisha commended her husband's administration for making significant progress in addressing the issue of insecurity in the country.
She believed that compared to the state of affairs when they assumed power, the president had performed admirably. However, she acknowledged that there was still room for improvement, as they had only achieved 50 percent of the goals outlined in his campaign promises.
She specifically mentioned the advancements made in infrastructure development such as road constructions and bridges, which had made a noticeable difference.
Regarding security, Aisha gave the president a score of 70 percent.
She pointed out that most kidnappings were orchestrated by family members for ulterior motives.
Roadblocks and barricades had significantly reduced during their tenure, indicating an improvement in security.
However, Aisha revealed that some instances of kidnapping and insurgency were the result of connivance among local individuals. Nonetheless, she expressed confidence in the administration's efforts, stating that they had achieved 90 percent success in security matters, assuming there was no collaboration involved.
Aisha emphasized that her husband had received Nigeria in a stable condition, and he would hand it over in the same manner. She admitted that she had not anticipated the challenges she would face as the first lady but assured that she remained unwavering in her support for her husband and prioritized the welfare of Nigerians.
The president's wife revealed that she openly criticized decisions made solely for the benefit of individuals rather than the general public.
Some decision-makers seemed oblivious to the fact that her husband was elected due to the immense love Nigerians had for him. Aisha took it upon herself to intervene and speak out against such actions. She firmly believed that it was her responsibility to protect the reputation and hard-earned name of her husband's family and did not tolerate attempts to tarnish their image.
