The announcement, made through a notice in the interior ministry's database, named Sergio Gerarde Ugaldo Godinez, a judge from Costa Rica who serves at the ICC in The Hague. However, the notice did not offer specific details about the allegations against Judge Godinez.
Back in March, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for President Putin on charges of war crimes related to the alleged unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. Additionally, a warrant was also issued for Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's presidential commissioner for children's rights, on similar charges.
Notably, Russia, which is not a member of the ICC, has consistently rejected the validity of the warrant against Putin. Nevertheless, this has limited the Russian leader's ability to travel internationally, as ICC member countries are generally expected to enforce the court's warrants. As a result, Putin opted not to attend the BRICS summit in South Africa in August, citing a desire not to create difficulties for participating countries. He also avoided the G20 summit in India in September.
Russia had previously issued arrest warrants for ICC prosecutor Karim Khan and several judges. In September, they declared their intention to seek the arrest of ICC President Piotr Hofmanski.
In September, the ICC established a field office in Ukraine as part of its broader efforts to hold Russian forces accountable for their actions during Moscow's offensive in the Western-backed country.
