The Court of Appeal in Lagos has decided to defer its judgment on the petition brought forth by Ovie Omo-Agege, the former deputy senate president and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori concerning the March 18 governorship election in Delta State.
As reported by The Nation, the challengers to the election results include Kenneth Gbagi and Kennedy Pela of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Labour Party (LP). The panel, led by Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, opted to reserve its decision after hearing arguments from the parties' legal representatives.
Governor Oborevwori was initially declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Delta by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 360,234 votes compared to Senator Omo-Agege's 240,229. Dissatisfied with the outcome, the APC, SDP, and Labour Party, along with their respective candidates, contested Oborevwori's victory before the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. However, the tribunal in Asaba, the state capital, dismissed their petitions, affirming Oborevwori's win. The tribunal stated that the opposition's petitions lacked merit and that the petitioners failed to substantiate their claims of over-voting.
