Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in fulfilling its mandates. This assurance was given during the launch of a new camouflage uniform for the NSCDC, which serves as an additional attire for the security agency.
Speaking on Thursday, as reported by the Ministry of Interior's spokesperson, Afonja Ajibola, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government's ongoing support for the corps, particularly in the areas of officer welfare and training. He expressed confidence that the government's investment in the NSCDC would contribute significantly to enhancing the overall security situation in the country. The minister stated, "As a federal government, we are making every effort to provide the necessary materials and knowledge to support our agencies in delivering their mandates. The NSCDC is no exception."
Highlighting the significance of the new camouflage uniform, Tunji-Ojo noted that it would instill a sense of pride among NSCDC officers within the broader security community. He believes that the uniform will not only boost morale but also increase confidence among the personnel. In his presentation, NSCDC Commandant General Abubakar Audi informed the Minister that the corps' operatives participate in joint operations, both kinetic and non-kinetic, and were the only security personnel without camouflage uniforms.
Audi assured the Minister that the introduction of the new uniform would not only inspire confidence but also elevate the morale of NSCDC officers during operations. He emphasized that the officers have long awaited this addition, which would enable them to blend seamlessly with their counterparts in other services.
