Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has successfully facilitated a reconciliation between police and military forces after a violent clash that occurred from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. In an emergency meeting convened on Wednesday night at the Government House in Yola, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, and the Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, Brigadier General Gambo Mohammed, expressed their commitment to fostering a harmonious inter-agency relationship.
Governor Fintiri, addressing the media after the security meeting, emphasized that the state's security heads had pledged to collaborate for the benefit of Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
Contrary to earlier reports suggesting the loss of a police inspector in the confrontations between the police and military, Governor Fintiri clarified that both the military and police had each lost one officer, with additional personnel sustaining injuries.
"We have just concluded a strategic meeting at the state high command, where all issues between the two concerned state commands were extensively discussed and resolved. We all unanimously agreed that our primary focus should be the peace and security of the state," stated Governor Fintiri. He reassured citizens of their safety and urged security agents to exercise restraint, allowing residents to carry on with their regular activities without fear.
The governor emphasized that the security agency leaders are overseeing their personnel to prevent a recurrence of such incidents, concluding, "The understanding now is that the heads of the sister security agencies are on top of their men, and this kind of thing will not happen again."
