President Bola Tinubu has taken a decisive step by appointing Chiedu Ebie as the new chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), marking a significant change in leadership.
This move signals the removal of the current chairman, Lauretta Onochie, who was previously appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari. It's worth noting that Tinubu had pledged to respect the legacy of Buhari's administration.
The announcement was made via a tweet issued from the Presidency's office and authenticated by Ajuri Ngelale, the president's spokesperson, on Tuesday, August 29. The appointment of Chiedu Ebie is effective immediately. The Presidency expressed optimism that this transition in leadership would usher in a fresh era of successful management for the regional agency.
Chiedu Ebie, the newly appointed NDDC chairman, has a history intertwined with the political landscape. He was closely associated with James Ibori and notably served as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Delta State during the tenure of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa. In April, Ebie faced suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to allegations of engaging in activities contrary to the party's interests.
