The NLC leadership has issued a strong warning of a nationwide strike scheduled for August 14, 2023, in response to a lawsuit filed against organized labor by the Federal Ministry of Justice. The decision was reached during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja and was reported by The Punch.
According to a statement signed by the national president, Joe Ajaero, the NLC accuses the Ministry of Justice and National Industrial Court of acting as agents of "anti-democracy." Despite having agreed to suspend protests after a meeting with the President, the NLC will proceed with the nationwide strike if the government does not withdraw the lawsuit against them.
Joe Ajaero stated that the NEC unanimously agreed to commence a comprehensive nationwide strike on August 14, 2023, unless the "contemptuous court summons" is withdrawn by the party responsible for initiating it.
