Activist Timi Frank Calls for Akpabio's Resignation Amidst Controversy Over Senators' 'Vacation Allowance'

Prominent activist and self-proclaimed advocate for democratic values, Comrade Timi Frank, has strongly criticized Senate President God'swill Akpabio following his recent revelation. Akpabio disclosed that the National Assembly management had dispatched funds to all Senators for their annual vacation.

In a video message shared with LEADERSHIP on Wednesday morning, Frank denounced Akpabio's televised admission as a "display of disgrace" and a mockery not only of democracy but also of the Nigerian populace. Frank went on to call for Akpabio's immediate resignation from his position. He highlighted the insensitivity of federal lawmakers enjoying national resources during a period of widespread hardships and economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Akpabio's revelation occurred during a special plenary session on Monday night, which was dedicated to the screening and confirmation of President Bola Tinubu's ministerial nominees. The Senate President informed his fellow Senators that Magaji Tambuwal, the Clerk to the National Assembly, had transferred funds into their individual bank accounts to facilitate their annual holiday.

The announcement was met with disruptions from Senators who seemed discontented with Akpabio's public declaration due to apprehensions about potential backlash. As a response to the unease, Akpabio temporarily halted his statement and then revised the wording. He conveyed an alternative message, stating, "To ensure your holiday enjoyment, the Senate President has sent prayers to your email addresses to support you on your safe journeys and returns."

It's reported that the Senate, following this event, adjourned plenary on Monday with plans to reconvene on September 26, 2023, after observing their annual recess.
