The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has leveled accusations against the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging their involvement in a plot to assassinate Atiku Abubakar, the PDP's presidential flagbearer for the 2023 election. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 23, when suspected members of Boko Haram reportedly attacked Atiku Abubakar at his residence in Yola, Adamawa State.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, July 24, the PDP claimed that the attack was a "sponsored attempt" on Atiku's life due to his persistent efforts to challenge the results of the presidential election at the presidential election petition court (PEPC). Debo Ologunagba, the PDP's national publicity secretary, conveyed their suspicions about a potential connection between the attack and recent threats made by the ruling APC.
Earlier on Sunday, the PDP had issued another statement asserting that the country would not descend into chaos if the PEPC ruled in favor of removing President Bola Tinubu from office due to electoral fraud. Currently, both Atiku and the PDP are contesting the results of the February 25 presidential election, which declared President Tinubu as the winner according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
