Former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Chinyere Igwe, has reopened his 'Mega Tool Filling Station' in Port Harcourt, which was sealed by the Rivers State Government ten months ago. Likewise, the CSKR Hotels and Prisc's Bar and Suites, owned by former Rivers State House of Assembly lawmaker Jones Ogbonda, have also been unsealed after being closed by the police in May.
Igwe and Ogbonda, both allies of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, had fallen out of favor with the former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, before the 2023 general elections.
Upon visiting the Mega Tool Filling Station, located in Port Harcourt, our correspondent noted that the facility had been unsealed, with security personnel no longer present. Similarly, at CSKR Hotels and Priscy's Bar and Suites, the police officers and patrol vans stationed at the entrance had left, and regular business operations had resumed when our reporter visited on Sunday.
When contacted for comment, the state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, claimed to be unaware of the sealing or reopening of the establishments, stating that he does not discuss official matters over the telephone. However, an anonymous associate of Igwe confirmed the news, stating that they had received the information that morning.
It should be recalled that Wike had ordered the sealing of the filling station on August 20, 2022, and had accused Igwe of involvement in illegal oil bunkering, an allegation which Igwe vehemently denied.
