Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, expressed his criticism of United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, for contacting President-elect Bola Tinubu.
Blinken had called Tinubu to reinforce the commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration.
However, Atiku took to Twitter to express his disbelief, stating that Blinken's call contradicted the publicly stated position of the U.S. regarding Nigeria's 2023 presidential election.
Atiku referred to the previous election as a sham and argued that legitimizing it would be disheartening for citizens who believe in democracy and the integrity of the ballot. Atiku tagged the State Department, President Joe Biden, and the U.S. Mission Nigeria in his tweet.
On the other hand, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, disagreed with Atiku's viewpoint.
Keyamo compared Atiku and Peter Obi's behavior to that of Donald Trump, accusing them of refusing to accept defeat and relying on propaganda.
He claimed that the U.S. understands the situation and has credible reports suggesting that the isolated incidents during the election did not significantly impact the overall outcome.
