The Department of State Services (DSS) has revealed that certain groups are planning to disrupt the upcoming handover ceremonies in various parts of the country.
These elements aim to undermine the security agencies' efforts and sow panic among citizens, according to a statement released by DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya on Thursday.
The statement highlighted the activities scheduled for the Presidential inauguration on May 29, 2023, including the swearing-in of the President in Abuja and the inauguration of new Governors in several states. The DSS has obtained intelligence regarding subversive elements intending to disrupt these programs in specific regions.
In light of this information, the DSS has called upon citizens, the media, and Civil Society Organizations to strictly adhere to security and civil protocols during the events.
The agency emphasized the importance of avoiding fake news, false alarms, biased reporting, and sensationalism, as such actions can fuel division, tension, and violence, ultimately harming national unity and cohesion.
Additionally, unauthorized individuals are strongly advised to refrain from accessing restricted and designated areas at the inauguration venues.
The DSS emphasized the need for the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant. It also pledged to maintain collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of the inaugurations.
