Google's Android Automotive operating system, which is expected to be available in more vehicles in the future, is getting an update with Material You design.
However, this feature will be focused on the car's maker rather than the driver.
This take on Material You design, which Google is calling "OEM Design Tokens," references a fixed library of design tokens set by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), which cannot be changed based on the end user's preferences.
This means that this update is more focused on Material Design than Material You.
Design tokens represent the small design decisions that make up a design system's visual style, and OEMs will designate the values for these tokens.
Despite the use of a static library of colors, different colors can still be pulled for different scenarios, such as different drive modes.
There is no word on when this update will be available for Android Automotive vehicles.
