The assault comes shortly after a previous attack on February 1st, 2024, where unidentified gunmen wreaked havoc in the Katapka and Okudu communities, resulting in the loss of lives and extensive property damage. In response, the Nigerian Army had deployed personnel to restore order in the region.
However, despite efforts to stabilize the situation, the bandits launched a surprise attack on the military and vigilante forces on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. Abdullahi Aliyu-Tashas, Chairman of Toto LGA, condemned the incident, emphasizing the ambush laid by the suspected bandits on the patrolling soldiers.
The state government has taken swift action to address the escalating violence, deploying additional security forces to prevent further unrest. Meanwhile, the Bassa Cultural Development Union has urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to urgently identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the attacks in Katapka and Okudu communities. The group expressed condolences to the bereaved families and called for collective efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
