Amidst Hardship, Federal Government Resumes Direct Cash Transfers to 12 Million Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu's administration is set to restart direct cash transfers aimed at aiding 12 million Nigerians amidst the ongoing hardships in the country. The announcement came from Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, during a retreat held by the ministry in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state.

Initially designed to assist 3 million Nigerians, the project has now been expanded to encompass an additional 12 million citizens, as revealed by Edun. He stated that the presidential panel overseeing social investment programs is prepared to present a recommendation to the President for the reinstatement of direct payments to the most impoverished and vulnerable individuals. Edun emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that measures are being expedited to alleviate suffering.

Edun highlighted the technological aspect of the initiative, emphasizing the commitment to leveraging technology for seamless payments and transitions between registered and direct beneficiaries. Despite the necessity for automation to facilitate the process, efforts are underway to ensure immediate resumption of direct payments without manual interventions.
