The national working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially appointed Setonji Koshoedo to fill the position left vacant by Samuel Anyanwu, the former national secretary. The decision comes in the wake of an Enugu High Court's directive prohibiting Anyanwu, who was the PDP flagbearer in the recently concluded Imo state governorship election, from representing himself as the party's secretary. The court further instructed Umar Damagum, the acting chairman of the PDP, to acknowledge Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate national secretary.
In response to the court's ruling, Damagum, on November 14, revealed the selection of Koshoedo as the new acting national secretary after a meeting with the national working committee. Koshoedo previously served as the PDP deputy national secretary. Damagum clarified the decision, stating, "We decided that the Deputy National Secretary should take over in an acting capacity pending the resolution of the Court case. We also direct parties involved in the Court case to stand down action for the party’s due process."
Earlier on the same day, Anyanwu reportedly assumed the role of national publicity secretary of the PDP, just three days after his defeat in the Imo governorship election. However, a federal high court in Abuja had earlier issued an order barring Anyanwu from presenting himself as the PDP national secretary.
