Senator Bamidele Calls on President for Assistance in Securing Ekweremadu's Release

During the valedictory session for the outgoing senators of the Ninth Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to employ diplomatic measures in order to secure the release of Senator Ike Ekweremadu (PDP Enugu), who is currently imprisoned in the United Kingdom (UK). 

It can be recalled that Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, was convicted of organ trafficking in May and sentenced to nine years and eight months in the UK's Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey.

Senator Bamidele, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, expressed his sympathy for Ekweremadu and emphasized that what has happened to him could have befallen any parent. He urged President Tinubu to utilize all necessary diplomatic channels to facilitate Ekweremadu's release.

Furthermore, Senator Bamidele mourned the loss of four senators who passed away while serving their respective constituencies in the National Assembly. The departed senators include Bayo Osinowo (Lagos East), Rose Oko (Cross River North), Benjamin Uwajumogu (Imo North), and Ignatius Longjam (Plateau South).

Senator Bamidele expressed gratitude to Senate President Ahmad Lawan for granting him the opportunity to serve as the chairman of the Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters.
