Reno Omokri, a former Presidential aide, is urging Nigerians to reconsider their criticism of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
In a recent post on his official Facebook account, Omokri pointed out that Emefiele is the only individual to have served two tenures as CBN governor in the past three decades.
Omokri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), believes that Emefiele, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), deserves the opportunity to defend himself through legal proceedings. He emphasized the need for concrete evidence and cautioned against passing judgment based on mere accusations.
Emefiele's case is particularly noteworthy as he was initially appointed by a president from one political party and later reappointed by a president from a different party. Omokri emphasized the significance of Emefiele's position as the most sought-after non-elective role in Nigeria.
Rather than engaging in a media trial conducted by a mob, Omokri asserts that if the administration led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu believes Emefiele has a case to answer, he should be formally charged and granted the judicial and media space necessary to defend himself.
