Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced plans to reconstruct the Kano Golden Jubilee Tower, which was recently demolished by his administration. The tower had been built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of Kano State but was torn down as part of the ongoing demolitions of structures associated with the previous administration of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Initially, the government justified the demolition by claiming that the tower posed a security threat and had a cross symbol on it. However, in response to the widespread criticism following the destruction, the Yusuf administration has now decided to relocate and rebuild the original design of the Golden Jubilee Tower at Naibawa Roundabout.
A statement from the governor's spokesperson, Comrade Hisham Habib, confirmed the government's intentions. The statement highlighted that the Kano State government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's leadership, aims to reinstate the iconic design at the new site near the Naibawa Flyover on the outskirts of the city.
During a meeting with the tower's designer, Kaltume Hana, at the proposed construction site, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed the government's commitment to infrastructure development. The governor assured citizens that the chosen location had been carefully surveyed and would not pose any challenges. He also emphasized the promise of better projects in the future.
Designer Kaltume Gana expressed gratitude to the governor for preserving her unique work, which was widely recognized as a masterpiece. The original structure, resembling a traditional gate with a trumpet on top, was brought down due to its unsuitability for the original location. The government now plans to install a more suitable replacement in its place.
