Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, experienced a setback in their case before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja.
According to The Nation, the court had scheduled further hearings for the party and candidate to present their case, including calling witnesses and submitting documents. The allocated time for this was four hours, starting at 9 am on Wednesday, May 31.
However, during the court session, Professor Awa Kalu (SAN), a lawyer representing the petitioners, informed the court that they were unable to proceed as planned due to challenges at their secretariat.
As reported by Vanguard, two key staff members of the petitioners' secretariat had fallen ill, disrupting their ability to continue with the day's proceedings.
Professor Kalu emphasized that these individuals played crucial roles within his legal team and their indisposition had hindered his plan to present important documents to support their allegation of election rigging in favor of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In response, Justice Haruna Tsammani granted the application for an adjournment and rescheduled the petition to be heard on Thursday, June 1.
In a separate development, Dr. Ope Banwo, a prominent supporter of Peter Obi and the Labour Party presidential candidate, surprisingly congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his successful inauguration as the 16th Nigerian president. Banwo, despite having reservations about the electoral process that brought Tinubu to power, expressed his decision to prioritize peace over conflict.
