President Bola Tinubu held his first official engagement after being inaugurated as the 16th President of Nigeria.
He met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The President arrived at the State House at around 2:30 pm, entering through the official quarter guard gate.
He was warmly received by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Tijjani Umar, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the outgoing Director of Protocol.
In attendance were also Governor Godwin Emefiele, Mr. Mele Kyari, and a member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. James Faleke, among others.
President Tinubu, along with Emefiele, Kyari, Gbajabiamila, Faleke, and other officials, proceeded directly to his office.
Although the specific details of the meeting were not disclosed, it is speculated that the discussions revolved around the removal of fuel subsidies and the resulting fuel scarcity. It is also anticipated that other important matters such as foreign exchange unification and the recent redesign of the Naira were addressed.
President Tinubu had previously announced in his inaugural speech that the fuel subsidy had been abolished, which led to the immediate closure of filling stations.
