Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, has reportedly severed ties with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to Timothy Osadolor, a prominent PDP member. Osadolor's remarks, as reported by Punch, shed light on Wike's conduct leading up to the 2023 presidential elections, which seemingly prompted his departure from the party. As a result, the PDP leadership has distanced itself from Wike, excluding him from their affairs and engagements.
Osadolor, a member of the PDP's national executive committee, emphasized that Wike's altered behavior warranted such treatment, highlighting that isolation could be a method of dealing with individuals rather than imposing sanctions.
While Wike may claim to have voluntarily stayed away, it appears that attending party activities would result in an unfavorable response from fellow party members. Wike's recourse to the courts to obtain a judgment preventing his suspension did not prevent him from being avoided by others.
Furthermore, Osadolor pointed out that Wike's recent closeness to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) serves as a testament to his inherent desire for attention and the limelight.
Responding to Osadolor's statements, Chris Finebone, the former Rivers State commissioner for information and communication, dismissed the claims made by the PDP chieftain. Finebone asserted that Wike remains a significant and influential figure within the PDP, despite the remarks of his adversaries.
