The ECOWAS Parliament has called upon parliamentarians from member states to persevere in their efforts to improve the standard of living of their constituents through effective representation and the implementation of impactful policies.
Addressing the conclusion of the 2023 First Ordinary Session in Abuja on Tuesday, the Speaker of the Parliament, Sidie Tunis, emphasized the significance of the session. It provided parliamentarians with the opportunity to adopt the Report of the 2023 First Extraordinary Session, along with the Reports of Standing Committees, Joint Committees, and Ad Hoc Committees.
"I urge you once again to remain dedicated in fulfilling your honorable responsibilities to the people of the ECOWAS sub-region whom you represent," Mr. Tunis stressed.
He further emphasized, "The primary concern should always be the best interests of the community's citizens, ensuring that the decisions made lead to growth and development in all aspects of their lives. Let us bear in mind that our success and progress are gauged by the quality of life experienced by our people."
Mr. Tunis highlighted that well-informed legislative decisions by parliamentarians would propel the integration agenda forward.
Furthermore, he stated that the presence of ECOWAS partners instilled parliamentarians with the necessary political will to enforce policies related to regional integration.
Throughout the session, parliamentarians presented country reports, engaged in interactive sessions with ECOWAS commissioners regarding departmental program implementation, and conducted ad hoc meetings, among other activities.
