Joe Biden, the President of the United States, has unveiled the members of his delegation who will be attending the inauguration of Nigeria's President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
The highly anticipated event, set to take place on May 29 at Abuja's Eagle Square, will witness the swearing-in of Tinubu as Nigeria's 16th President. A notable gathering of 65 world leaders, including Heads of State, has been invited to grace the occasion.
Apart from heads of international organizations, diplomats, past presidents, and prominent Nigerians, representatives from numerous foreign governments and agencies are also expected to attend the seventh transition ceremony in Nigeria.
Traditional allies of Nigeria, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, China, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Japan, Israel, Turkey, and more, will be sending representatives to this high-profile event.
In a recent statement released on the White House website, President Joe Biden announced the composition of a nine-member delegation that will be led by Marcia L. Fudge, the Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Other delegation members include Mr. David Greene, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., U.S. Embassy Abuja; Honorable Sydney Kamlager-Dove, United States Representative (D), California; Honorable Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce; General Michael E. Langley, Commander of U.S. Africa Command; Honorable Enoh T. Ebong, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency; Honorable Mary Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, U.S. Department of State; Honorable Judd Devermont, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs, National Security Council; and Honorable Monde Muyangwa, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Africa, U.S. Agency for International Development.
The inauguration ceremonies are scheduled to commence on Thursday with the investiture of Tinubu as the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, accompanied by the Vice-President-elect, Kashim Shettima, who will be honored as the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
Additional events leading up to the inauguration include a lecture titled "Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development," to be delivered by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 27. The Regimental Dinner in honor of the Commander-in-Chief, the Valedictory Federal Executive Council Meeting, a Public Lecture, Juma'at prayer, Children's Day Parade and Party, an Inter-denominational Church Service, and the Inauguration Dinner/Gala Night are among the other activities scheduled in the days leading up to the inauguration.
The main inauguration ceremony on May 29 will feature the swearing-in of the President-elect and the vice president-elect at the Eagle Square, accompanied by an inauguration parade.
Following the ceremony, a post-inauguration luncheon will be held exclusively for the President, fellow heads of state, heads of government, and distinguished guests at the State House Banquet Hall.
