Tragedy struck at Radford Studios in Studio City on Tuesday, Feb. 6, when a rigger fell from a catwalk, resulting in his untimely death.
The incident occurred while the male crew member was working at the studio, which was not actively filming Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man series at the time. Identified as Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, of Temple City, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Marvel Studios expressed their condolences, stating, "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident."
Matthew D. Loeb, President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), also expressed grief, saying, “Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues.”
Safety protocols are under scrutiny following this incident, with Loeb emphasizing, “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can.” He encouraged members to report any concerns about safety on set through the IATSE Safety Hotline or the safety info app.
Wonder Man's production schedule was already affected by recent strikes from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), causing delays. However, plans to commence production next month remain intact.
