In a tragic incident, United States authorities have indicated that a combination of wintry weather conditions played a role in a helicopter crash that claimed the life of Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc. The crash occurred near the California-Nevada border on Friday, with Wigwe, his wife, and son aboard, alongside Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairperson of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.
During a media briefing held at an unusual hour on Saturday, National Transportation Safety Board member Michael Graham revealed that initial reports pointed towards adverse weather conditions as a contributing factor. Graham noted the ongoing efforts to meticulously gather evidence at the crash site, stressing the importance of considering all potential factors in determining the cause.
The helicopter, operated by Orbic Air LLC, lacked cockpit voice and flight data recorders, which Graham highlighted. As inquiries into the passengers continue, Graham mentioned that the NTSB would scrutinize various aspects, including the helicopter's maintenance, operations, and meteorological conditions.
Acknowledging the involvement of multiple parties in the investigation, Graham disclosed that the French aviation accident investigation agency would participate due to the helicopter's manufacturer and engine origin.
Meanwhile, Access Holdings Plc has officially confirmed the tragic loss of its CEO, Herbert Wigwe, along with his family members.
