The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made a significant move yesterday, publicly declaring Margaret Dumbiri Emefiele, spouse of the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, as a wanted individual. Alongside Margaret, the anti-graft agency also placed Eric Ocheme Odoh, Jonathan Omoile, and Anita Joy Omoile on the list of wanted persons. They are alleged to have colluded with the ex-CBN governor in the misappropriation of substantial sums of money belonging to the Federal Government.
In a notice issued to the public, the EFCC accused the aforementioned individuals of engaging in criminal activities such as obtaining money under false pretenses and theft, actions punishable under Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. Godwin Emefiele, the former CBN governor, is currently embroiled in a legal battle facing 20-count amended charges. These charges span various offenses including corruption, conspiracy, breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretenses, amounting to a staggering sum of Six Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand United States Dollars ($6,230,000.00).
