Kylian Mbappe Set to Depart Paris Saint-Germain Ahead of Summer

Kylian Mbappe has purportedly informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to depart from the club at the conclusion of this season upon the expiry of his contract. The communication reportedly took place between Mbappe and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG, on Tuesday. It's anticipated that Mbappe will be heading to Real Madrid, although the specifics of his departure are still being negotiated. The discussion revolves around whether Mbappe will leave for a transfer fee or opt to forgo his own earnings. PSG is counting on Mbappe to honor his commitment of not departing on a free transfer. An official announcement is expected from both PSG and Mbappe once these terms are settled in the forthcoming months.

Real Madrid has been in pursuit of the 25-year-old forward for quite some time, with Mbappe likely needing to accept a reduction in salary to join the Spanish club. However, Real Madrid is prepared to make him their highest-paid player in history.

In August 2021, PSG rejected a €220m (£188m) bid from Real Madrid for Mbappe. Subsequently, Mbappe chose to extend his contract with PSG for another three years, which is set to expire this summer. Should Mbappe decide to extend his contract by an additional year, PSG would value him at €150m (£128m) in the upcoming transfer window. Last summer, PSG turned down a €300m (£256m) offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, a move that Mbappe declined.

Mbappe's departure, given his €200m (£171m) annual wages, will allow PSG to allocate resources towards securing a replacement for their star player. It's understood that there are already plans in motion to make multiple signings during the upcoming summer transfer window.
