Access Holdings Names Ms. Bolaji Agbede as Acting CEO in Wake of Herbert Wigwe's Passing


Access Holdings Plc swiftly responded to the unexpected loss of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, by appointing Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, a move aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership.

The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc announced this decision on February 12, 2024, following a statement issued on February 11, 2024. Ms. Agbede, the most senior founding Executive Director responsible for Business Support within the company, will take the reins, pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria. This transition marks a pivotal moment in the company's journey as it adapts to the challenges posed by sudden leadership changes.

Ms. Agbede boasts an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades, with significant experience in banking and business consultancy services. Beginning her journey at Guaranty Trust Bank in 1992, she steadily ascended the ranks, eventually assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited in 2003. Her tenure at Access Bank Plc, starting in 2003, saw her managing the bank's portfolio of chemical trading companies before taking on leadership roles, including Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022.

Transitioning to Access Holdings Plc as the founding Executive Director of Business Support, Ms. Agbede played a crucial role in integrating business units and transforming the company's culture. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos (1990) and a Master of Business Administration from Cranfield University, UK (2002). Additionally, she is a member of esteemed professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

Ms. Agbede's leadership journey has been further enriched by participation in renowned leadership and professional development programs, including the High-Performance Leadership Programme by IMD and the Strategic Talent Management Programme by the London Business School.
